Fields Guide

WCLL uses several fields across Walnut Creek for practices and games. This guide lists our fields and key information for each. Always check fields.wclittleleague.org for current weather conditions and open/closed status before heading out.

Checking Field Conditions

Before any game or practice, check whether fields are open:

  • Website — fields.wclittleleague.org shows real-time weather and field status
  • Slack — type /weather <field> to check conditions (e.g., /weather murwood)
  • Use /weather list in Slack to see all available fields

When fields are closed due to rain or poor conditions, a red alert banner appears on the website and the status shows in Slack lookups. See the Rain & Field Closure Policy for more details.

General Field Rules

  • No use when fields are closed — playing on wet or damaged fields causes lasting damage. Respect closures.
  • Clean up after yourself — pick up trash, sunflower seed shells, and equipment
  • No metal cleats — rubber molded cleats only
  • Vehicles stay in parking lots — do not drive on grass or dirt areas
  • Dogs must be leashed and kept away from playing fields during games and practices

Pre-Game Field Prep

The home team is typically responsible for field prep before the game. This includes:

  • Dragging the infield
  • Chalking the foul lines and batter’s boxes
  • Setting up bases
  • Checking the field for hazards (rocks, holes, debris)

After the last game of the day, teams should put away bases and equipment and leave the field in good condition.

Volunteering for Field Maintenance

Field maintenance is one of the most important — and most needed — volunteer activities. Larger field improvement projects are organized throughout the season. These count toward your volunteer hours. Watch the #fields Slack channel for announcements.
